It’s that time of year again! While the international fashion set is half way through the NYC > LONDON > MILAN > PARIS fashion week circuit, here in Australia we get to experience some of our own homegrown fashion magic with the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival Sydney – which kicks off today!
And to celebrate, visionary online retailer Farfetch.com have asked me to design a Beautiful Lens Fashion Week Takeover.
So, stay tuned for my dream Australian fashion week… the location, the labels, the list (that’s the A-A-A-list) and my three dream Farfetch looks to wear for the shows, interwoven with my very own fashion portraits, street style and runway images from throughout 2015.
My first fashion week look is these gorgeous Natasha Zinko denim overalls (if you follow me
on instagram you might remember that I was hooked on a dress version
from Erin Fetherston at #NYFW last week) teamed with simple-but-individual
gold accessories – and the cutest clutch. Hello #hashtag (where would we be without you ;)
My second look is more refined but still unique, pairing a beautiful
Valentino dress with flared Ellery trousers, punk princess pearls, the perfect simple sandal from
Alexander Wang and a super fun fashion-appropriate
purse from Charlotte Olympia.
My final fashion week look is sexy/playful/chic.
Because everyone needs all three of those moments in their life! Oui?!
Especially during fashion week ;)
Flirty heels and a tee from blogger-extraordinaire Chiara Ferragni are all grown-up
courtesy of a lambskin leather skirt from Dion Lee and a Bassike robe.
Ksubi sunglasses, an immaculate clutch from The Row (all bow down to the Olsen Goddesses)
and a set of cuff earrings round out the outfit.
I’m sorry, but I have to do it. MY Australian Fashion Week would be held at the Sydney Opera House with breakout runways dotted around the harbour in key locations: the Museum of Contemporary Art (aka the MCA), Luna Park, the Sydney Botanic Gardens and the Overseas Passenger Terminal with an world-first opening runway show, headlined by Zimmermann, that shuts down the Sydney Harbour Bridge and turns it into one amazing mega runway. Dream big people!
I have to include the remarkable Australian talents that featured in my Farfetch outfits: Ellery, Dion Lee, Ksubi and Bassike. With the Zimmermann sisters as my opening show. But I’d absolutely also include Sofie Teh, Toni Maticevski, AJE, Betty Tran, Christopher Esber, HAN Studios, the legendary Carla Zampatti, Gary Bigeni, Jayson Brundson, Manning Cartell, Alice McCall, Michael Lo Sordo, Akira Isogawa, Romance Was Born, and Icebergs‘ own 10 Pieces. With a special Byron Bay show showcasing Spell & The Gypsy Collective, Stevie May, Isla, Talulah, Afends, SJ Lingerie, Rowie and Goddess of Babylon.
My international special guests for The Beautiful Lens X Australian Fashion Week would be Garance Doré and Victoria Beckham, with invitations in the post for world-trawling bloggers Sarah Mikaela, Chiara Ferragni and Vanessa Hong aka The Haute Pursuit. My Australian front row would be filled out with two of my favourite fashionistas Margaret Zhang and Nicole Warne as well as the Fashion Bloggers TV girls: Amanda, Sara, Nadia, Kate and Zanita – of course! Sybil Steele, Mimi Elashiry, Pip Edwards and Eleanor Pendleton round out my It-girls. I would also invite an inspiring and eclectic mix of Australian artists, photographers, musicians and writers to promote creative cross-pollination and embrace our creative diversity.
A huge thank you to Farfetch for instigating this radical fashion day-dreaming. I love that you believe in The Beautiful Lens! But enough planning and organising, it’s time to get ready for tonight’s red carpet.
So, what will you be wearing?
