Izakaya Nights

Cho Cho San SYDNEY The Beautiful Lens-3271

I have a bit of a love affair with Japanese food.

Don’t you?

When we returned to Australia and settled in Byron Bay, a lifetime ago ;) I waitressed in a sushi restaurant to pay the bills. And to, um, eat the staff meals! Hahaha #truth. But before that, on the way back from London we had a four day stay in pre-Fukushima Tokyo. Experiencing the worst jet lag of my life the trip is a blur of neon lights, blissed-out temples, saké and beautifully prepared food, and I’ve wanted to go back ever since. Unfortunately, radiation concerns have kept it off my travel plans for the past few years, so finding great Japanese food here is one of my favourite things.

Needless to say, when friends booked T and I a table at Cho Cho San, a cool little izakaya (meaning: a Japanese bar serving food on the side) in Sydney earlier this year, we were in our element. Extensive saké list, check. Beautiful food, check. Hot date, check. Green tea soft serve, check! What more could a girl ask for?

I’d love to hear your recommendations if you share my love of Japanese. Add them in the comments below or come say hi on instagram :) And, if Japanese isn’t your thing, what do you love?
